Dems Blast NJ's Silence on Sandy Contractor Firing

Some New Jersey Democrats are criticizing Gov. Chris Christie's administration for not disclosing for more than a month that it had canceled a contract with a firm hired to run some of the state's biggest Superstorm Sandy recovery programs.
 
Officials announced Thursday the state was no longer using New Orleans-based Hammerman & Gainer to manage home rebuilding programs.
 
Neither the state nor the company offered an explanation.
 
U.S. Reps. Bill Pascrell and Frank Pallone said Friday the state needs to explain why the contract was terminated.
 
State Senate President Steve Sweeney asked how the programs would work now.
 
State Community Affairs Commissioner Richard Constable said in a statement that aid-related websites are working as normal and that his staff is available to answer applicants' questions about the programs.
