Delaware State House Approves Early Voting, Election Day Registration

The state House has approved legislation allowing early voting and same-day registration in Delaware.

The bills cleared the Democrat-led House on Thursday with no Republican support. They now go to the Senate, also controlled by Democrats.

One bill allows in-person early voting for at least 10 days prior to elections for statewide, county and city of Wilmington offices. The bill, which would take effect in January 2022, calls for at least one polling place in each county and one in Wilmington.

The other bill would allow a person to register to vote at his or her polling place on election day. The person would have to submit a government-issued photo ID or a utility bill, paycheck, bank statement or other government document bearing his or her name and address.
