Delaware officials are preparing to accept donations of venison to help feed needy residents.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control says the General Assembly has given full funding to the processing and distribution of deer meat for the Sportsmen Against Hunger program.
The News Journal of Wilmington reports that last year, nearly 20,000 pounds of deer meat were donated to the program. The venison was divided among 31 food pantries and shelters, where it provided more than 100,000 meals.
Hunters are asked to drop field-dressed, registered deer at coolers posted in all three counties.
