Officials in Delaware are warning people of an e-mail scam using the Delaware Lottery logo to trick people into wiring money.
Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden on Friday warned residents of the scam and directed people to call a state hotline if they got one of the scam e-mails. Officials say the scam tries to convince people they have won the lottery by a “computer ballot system.”
Delaware lottery winners are not contacted by e-mail.
The scam was discovered by Delaware Lottery Director Wayne Lemons. Lemons said someone contacted him to ask if the scam letter was legitimate.
Officials say anyone who receives such a notification should call a state consumer hotline at (800) 220-5424.
