No More Left Lane for Slow Del. Drivers

The state Senate has approved a bill prohibiting slower moving vehicles from remaining in the left lane and impeding traffic on Delaware highways.

The state Senate has approved a bill prohibiting slower moving vehicles from remaining in the left lane and impeding traffic on Delaware highways.

The bill won unanimous approval in the Senate on Tuesday with no debate. It was unanimously approved in the House last month.

The legislation is intended to prevent slower drivers from remaining in the passing lane and blocking cars behind them. Chief sponsor William Carson, a Smyrna Democrat, has said that can lead to road rage.

The bill was amended to clarify that motorists traveling at the posted speed limit in the left lane would not be in violation of the legislation, which now goes to the governor's desk.
