As of Monday night, Philadelphia's Fairmount Park will close from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the next few weeks so that hunters can thin the deer population.
The nighttime hunts are scheduled through the end of March.
The areas covered are the Wissahickon Valley Park, West Fairmount Park, Pennypack Park and Cobbs Creek Park.
There were no immediate numbers about how many deer are currently roaming the area.
Some residents were unaware of the deer hunt and claim that no signs were posted.
"I haven't heard about it," said Gary Russell of Flourtown. "They got to let people know."
A Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Commission spokesman would not say how many hunters would be out on a given night or the number of deer that they're looking to kill when asked by NBC10.

This isn’t the first time park officials have called for a deer hunt. Back in 2008 153 deer were killed during a five-week hunt.
