Driver Avoids Jail Time for Deadly Pennsylvania Red Light Crash

A western Pennsylvania man convicted of vehicular homicide in a crash that killed another driver more than three years ago has been spared jail time.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jonathan Schroyer of Connellsville was sentenced Tuesday to 23 months of intermediate punishment, a form of probation, and ordered to serve 12 months of the sentence on house arrest.

State police said Schroyer ran a red light at an intersection in Connellsville in November 2011 and hit the car driven by 22-year-old David Prah Jr., who was killed.

Schroyer apologized to relatives of the victims Tuesday. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that he referred to the loss of a brother in an unrelated accident as he said he understood their loss and "would never intentionally put that burden on anyone."
