Daughter Steals From Dad's Estate: Police

The district attorney says a Pittsburgh woman stole more than $41,000 from her father's estate, and illegally transferred ownership of his pickup truck worth $36,000 to her aunt.

The attorney for 23-year-old Brittany Gaither hasn't commented on the charges of criminal conspiracy, forgery and theft filed against her and her aunt, 46-year-old Darlene DeMarzo.

The Pittsburgh women surrendered Monday on charges that Gaither forged her father's will and abused her power of attorney to go on a spending binge, before and after he died in October, accessing some of the $1.7 million he won in an asbestos settlement. He died of lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure.

Allegheny County prosecutors say Gaither was trying to keep the entire estate for herself instead of dividing it with her sister.

DeMarzo's attorney says she denies wrongdoing.
