Dad Jailed for Punching Baby, 6-Year-Old Daughter: Cops

Police say the man punched his children while arguing with his wife over cigarette money.

A western Pennsylvania man has been jailed on charges he punched his 14-month-old daughter while arguing over cigarette money with his wife.

He is also charged with punching her 6-year-old daughter when the little girl tried to break up the fight.

The suspect's wife told police he was angry when she refused to give him money for cigarettes early Thursday morning, according to The Beaver Times. Jeannette Northington told police that her husband, Darren Finch, 35, began choking her while she was holding their baby girl. She claims he then tried twice to punch her in the stomach but hit the baby instead -- once in the head and once in the nose.

Finch allegedly hit the other little girl in the mouth when she tried to intervene.

Finch, who lives in Rochester, faces a preliminary hearing Thursday on simple assault, child endangerment and other charges.
