Man Attacked With Crowbar for Wearing Donald Trump T-Shirt: Police

A waitress disputes the reason for the attack, saying the man in the Trump shirt called another man a slur

A man was attacked with a crowbar in the parking lot of a New Jersey restaurant for wearing a Donald Trump T-shirt, according to police, though a waitress at the eatery told NBC 4 New York a different version of events.

Police say the 62-year-old man was walking in Bloomfield last week when another man in a vehicle questioned him about the shirt featuring the Republican presidential candidate and cursed at him.

Authorities say the man followed the man in the Trump shirt into a Friendly's parking lot, then got out of his vehicle and hit him several times with a crowbar.

A waitress at the restaurant contested that version of events, however, saying the man in the Trump shirt called another customer a slur and said he shouldn't be at the eatery. The waitress said she separated the men; she said the man who had been insulted left and waited for the 62-year-old to come out, then beat him.

The man in the Trump shirt suffered injuries to his arms, hands and thighs and was treated at the scene. Police say the other man fled before officers arrived.
