Charges for Alleged Route 9 Cross Burners

Three men charged in Feb. cross burning along Route 9 in Burlington County

Three men were indicted Tuesday for allegedly burning a cross earlier this year near where an African-American family lives in Bass River Township, N.J.

A grand jury charged Nicholas Comis, 22; and Christopher Hurrell, 21, both of Tuckerton, N.J.; and Daniel Enders, 22, of New Gretna, N.J. with second-degree bias intimidation and third-degree arson, according to Burlington County Prosecutor Robert Bernardi.

The indictments stem from a cross burning that happened along Route 9 near Ash Road around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 16.

The defendants were arrested on the same night near where an 8-foot-by-4-foot lumber cross was set ablaze, according to prosecutors.

An arraignment is pending in Burlington County court.
