Swimmer Missing in Ocean County

Rescue crews search for a missing swimmer in Seaside Park, NJ

Rescue crews come up empty in their search for a missing swimmer in Seaside Park, New Jersey.

Investigators say an 18-year-old was in the water with three other swimmers when he went missing around 3:30 p.m. The other three are safe.

Friends identified the missing teen as Bastafros Faris of Bayonne, NJ.

“The wave grabbed him far away from me.  I was standing near the shore.  He called for help but no one came because there was no lifeguard” said Andre Messiha.

The Coast Guard and Seaside Park Police spent hours conducting a water and air search near the O Street Beach for the 18-year-old. Searchers noted the rip currents were extremely strong for so early in the season.

There were several near drownings on this beach Wednesday.
