Police say Officer Bill Reed, 35, remains in the hospital as of Tuesday afternoon, after a crash last night at Mill Road and Fernwood Avenue in Egg Harbor Township.
The 17-year-old driver of a Lexus SUV was heading northbound on Fernwood and drove through a stop sign at Mill Road and collided with the K-9 police vehicle, police said.
The K-9 vehicle went into the woods and hit a tree.
The teen driver was riding with a friend. Both teens were sent to the hospital and released.
The teen received several summonses. He only had a supervised permit, which means he shouldn't have been driving without an adult in the car.
The police dog was not hurt.
