Corbett to Unveil Hannah Penn Portrait

The woman who governed the colony of Pennsylvania after William Penn suffered a stroke and after he died is going to be honored with her own portrait in the state Capitol.

Gov. Tom Corbett plans to unveil the portrait of Hannah Callowhill Penn during a Wednesday ceremony in the Governor's Reception Room.

Hannah Penn was William Penn's second wife, and effectively governed the proprietorship after he suffered a stroke in 1712 and for eight years after he died in 1718.

Her children took over the colony upon her own death.
