Corbett Picks New Communications Chief

A woman with experience in political campaigns and public relations will be Gov. Tom Corbett's new communications director.

Lynn Lawson's appointment was announced Wednesday, two days after longtime Corbett press secretary Kevin Harley announced plans to resign and work for a public-relations firm.

A Luzerne County native, Lawson has work experience in public relations, most recently as managing director of the Washington-based DCI Group. She served as spokeswoman for Gov. Tom Ridge's 1998 re-election campaign. She also worked in state government during the Ridge administration and at the White House under President George H.W. Bush.

In her new job, Lawson will oversee communications in the governor's office as well the state employees who speak for 27 agencies in state government.

Corbett also plans to name a new press secretary.
