Cops Still Trying to Track Down New Year's Murder Suspect

30-year-old man wanted for one of the first homicides of 2012

Philadelphia Police need the public's help to find the man they believe committed one of the first homicides of 2012 in the city.

Around 1:25 a.m. on New Year's Day, Gerard Market, 48, was shot multiple times in the neck and back, cops said. The shooting happened on the 4100 block of Orchard Street in the East Frankford section of the city.

Market, who lived on the same block where he was shot, died about a half hour later at Temple Hospital.

On Jan. 4 an arrest warrant was issued for Christopher Johnson, 30, of the 1300 block of 66th Avenue in the East Oak Lane section of Philadelphia, cops said.

He is wanted for Market's murder, cops said Tuesday.

Nearly two weeks later Johnson remained on the loose, according to police.

Police reported a bloody end to the old year and the start of a new one as six people were killed and others injured in less than 12 hours around the City of Brotherly Love around New Year's Eve and Day. Market's murder was one of those killings.

Anyone with information on Johnson's whereabouts should contact the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334/35 or call 911.
