Cop Was Driving Car in NJ Hit-and-Run: Police

NJ police officer hit a 27-year-old man and left him lying in a parking lot with severe head trauma

It was a police officer who hit a 27-year-old man in Winslow Township, N.J. last Friday, leaving him in critical condition at the scene, authorities say.

No charges have been filed yet against the female officer who hit Vance Banks and left him lying in a parking lot in Camden County with severe head trauma.

Police have not yet released the name of the Washington Township police officer and police called the incident an ongoing personnel matter, reports the Courier-Post.

Banks was walking home from work along Sicklerville Road in Winslow Township just after 1 a.m. Friday when the officer allegedly hit him.

โ€œAn anonymous caller called in and said there was a man in the street and just left him there,โ€ Banksโ€™ sister Tiffany Wilmer told NBC Philadelphia.

After being taken to Cooper University Hospital, Banks underwent a two-hour surgery and was put into a medically-induced coma in critical condition.

Police recovered a passengerโ€™s side mirror from the scene of the accident. They believe the mirror comes from a red 2003-2007, two-door Honda Accord.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office told The Courier-Post the driver called police later on Friday and said she may have been involved in an accident.
