Cop Loses Control of Cruiser, Hits Boy

Cruiser jumped onto the sidewalk and hit the boy, witnesses say

A boy was hurt after being hit by a Philadelphia Police cruiser as he walked on the sidewalk.

The incident happened at 60th and Washington Avenue in the Cobbs Creek section of the city just after 9 p.m. Thursday, police said.

Witnesses told NBC Philadelphia that the officer was speeding when they lost control of the cruiser, jumped the curb and hit the boy.

The boy was taken to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. His age and condition unknown.

The officer was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with minor injuries, police say.

Police have cordoned off the block where the accident happened and are investigating.
