Convicted Murderer's Lawsuit Dismissed in NJ

One of New Jersey's most notorious convicted murderers has been dealt another defeat by the criminal justice system.

Last Friday a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit Michael LaSane filed against state prison officials. He claimed they failed to provide proper treatment after he underwent dental surgery.

LaSane was convicted four years ago of the 1996 carjacking and murder of an Ocean County schoolteacher who secretly recorded the crime as it unfolded. The tape was played during the trial. 

He was sentenced to life plus 60 years, but that sentence was later reduced to life plus 30 years.

LaSane was convicted of abducting Kathleen Weinstein from outside a Toms River restaurant and killing her after driving her to a wooded area near his home in Berkeley Township.
