Man Dies After Driving Construction Vehicle Off Delaware Pier

State police say a 62-year-old man has died after driving a construction vehicle off a pier in northern Delaware.

Authorities say the incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday at Ocean Port LLC on Philadelphia Pike in Claymont, a cargo and freight company bordering the Delaware River just south of the Pennsylvania state line.

Officials say the man was operating a front-end loader on an elevated pier and, for an undetermined reason, traveled off the pier into the water below.

The victim was recovered and pronounced dead at the scene.

His name was being withheld pending the notification of family members.
