Collegeville Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

A local soldier died last week while fighting in Afghanistan.

Army Staff Sgt. Marc J. Small of Collegeville, Pa., died Feb. 12 in Faramuz, Afghanistan, according to a Department of Defense release.

The 29-year-old was a Special Forces Operational Detachment-Alpha team medical sergeant assigned to Company A, the 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) out of Fort Bragg, N.C., according to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command.

He was died from wounds suffered during a battle with insurgents. They attacked his unit using a rocket-propelled grenade launcher and small arms fire.

Small was a 1997 graduate of Methacton High School, in Worcester Township, according to the AP.
