Members of the largest city employee unions rallied Thursday to oppose a new plan to restructure pension plans just days before their contracts expire.
District Council 47 and DC 33 rallied Thursday at "Love Park" in JFK Plaza, across from City Hall.
They were upset about a proposal by Mayor Michael Nutter's administration to restructure the pension plan for all new city workers. Nutter sent the proposal to City Council on Thursday.
The plan would save the city $500 million over 30 years, said Finance Director Rob Dubow.
AFSCME District Council 33 chief Pete Matthews rejected the proposal.
City Managing Director Camille Barnett drew up contingency plans in case the unions call a strike.
Contracts for city blue collar and white collar workers expire on June 30.
