City Hall's Red-Light Cameras Go Live

Red-light cameras went "live" Tuesday at two intersections around City Hall: Broad and South Penn Square and Broad and JFK Boulevard.

The cameras have actually been rolling and monitored for about a month. But now that grace period is over and if you run a red light, count on the camera catching you. Car owners will be mailed a $100 fine for red-light running.

Philly's parking authority already sent out nearly 3,000 warnings during the grace period, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal.

That just "shows red light cameras are very much needed," PPA executive director Vince Fenerty said.

The city's first red light cameras went up in 2005 along one of the most accident-prone roads in the country – Roosevelt Boulevard.
