City Drops Opposition to Franklin Institution Digital Signage

The Franklin Institute has passed a years-long hurdle in bringing itself into the digital signage era and convert an existing sign to digital.

The institution has gotten pushback on converting its signs on the corner of 20th Street and Ben Franklin Parkway to digital since 2012. The institution and the city of Philadelphia on Monday, after a months-long discussion with stakeholders, reached an agreement that allows for the conversion.

The city opted to pursue a negotiated settlement after The Franklin Institute received a variance from the zoning board of adjustment, which was later upheld in court proceedings, according to the city.
