Woman Killed in Cherry Hill House Fire

The victim later died at a local hospital from severe burns

An early morning house fire claimed the life of a New Jersey woman on Christmas Day.

Firefighters were called to the 2800 block of Church Road in Cherry Hill shortly after midnight.

Investigators said the blaze started in a rear bedroom of the house but quickly spread throughout the home.

Firefighters found a woman in the kitchen. She was transported to a local hospital but later died from severe burns, according to investigators.

“It’s certainly an unfortunate incident to take place not only on a holiday but on any day when a family member dies due to a fire,” said Cherry Hill Fire Chief Robert Giorgio.

Other people were reportedly in the home at the time of the fire but managed to escape.

Firefighters are investigating if there were any working smoke detectors in the home.

The investigation into what caused the fire continues.
