Christie Calls Reporter ‘Stupid,' ‘Idiot' During Press Conference

Christie referred to the reporter as "stupid" and "an idiot" after the reporter asked him an off-topic question during a press conference.

New Jersey Governor Christie is facing criticism after calling a reporter “stupid” and “an idiot.”

It happened during a press conference on Saturday on the water emergency in Monmouth County. Reporters were asked to limit their questions and remain on topic. Chris Harris, a reporter for “The Record” tried to ask Christie if he was "going to be addressing the state legislature." Christie is in the midst of a budget battle and is expected to veto plans to raise taxes on millionaires and cut property taxes for others. Christie was in no mood to discuss this on Saturday however.

“Didn’t I say on topic?” replied Christie. “Are you stupid? On topic! Next question.”

Before leaving, Christie had more words for Harris.

“Thank you all very much and I’m sorry for the idiot over there.”

This wasn't the first time Christie has gotten into a heated exchange with someone at a press conference. In March, the Governor called a former Navy seal an "idiot" during a town-hall style meeting in Burlington County.

In response to Christie’s words, Harris tweeted the following on Monday.

I am the reporter Governor Christie called an idiot over the weekend. And no, my feelings were not hurt.
