Chestnut Hill Burglar Going Right for the Jewels

There have been about 30 burglaries in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia since mid-September, according to Philadelphia Police.

The burglar has a specific target, according to Philadelphia Police Lt. Michael Kopecki. The burglar(s) are ignoring the electronics like flatscreen TVs, laptops and iPods and going straight for the jewelry.

The cash currently being paid for gold may be the driving force behind these crimes, said Kopecki.

A pattern has been emerging not only in what is taken but also in the location and time of day. Most of the stealing is being done during the day between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., said Kopecki.

The burglar doesn't discriminate breaking into twin and single-family homes on cul-de-sacs and heavily traveled streets.

Police are urging residents of Chestnut Hill to make sure windows and doors are locked and to turn on alarms systems if they have one.
