Police Shoot, Injure Suspect

Authorities say a suspect was shot by a police officer in the city of Chester, Pa. near Philadelphia after he tried to escape in a sport utility vehicle, hitting a vehicle and nearly hitting an officer.

Delaware County investigators say police were trying to apprehend the man at about 4 p.m. Wednesday in an investigation of what they only called β€œsuspicious activity.”

Police said the man put the vehicle in gear, backing into an unmarked police vehicle, and then drove forward, nearly striking an officer.

Capt. Otis Blair said that officer then opened fire, striking the suspect three times.

The man was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, where family members said he was in stable condition.
