Body Found Behind Popular Cherry Hill Shopping Center

A shock for shoppers and workers at a popular South Jersey shopping center Tuesday morning as police investigated the discovery of a body near some stores.

Police responded early Tuesday to the area behind the supermarket on Marlton Pike W (Route 70) near Haddonfield Road at the former Garden State racetrack site in Cherry Hill -- a Wegmans, Best Buy, DSW, Home Depot and other stores operate at the site. Workers at area stores and shoppers alerted NBC10 about the police activity.

Cherry Hill Police didn’t immediately reveal many details of their investigation nor the dead person.

Wegmans spokeswoman Jo Natale said that the body wasn't found on the store's property and said that the company hadn't received any information from local police.

The death appeared to be a suicide and the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said that homicide detectives weren’t investigating.
