Man Charged After Dragging a New Jersey Officer

Bail has been set at $150,000 cash for Donell Cook, a 24-year-old Somerset resident

A New Jersey man allegedly was driving drunk when he dragged a police officer with his vehicle last week, leaving the officer injured.

Bail has been set at $150,000 cash for Donell Cook, a 24-year-old Somerset resident. He faces numerous charges, including two counts of aggravated assault on an officer and single counts of attempt to disarm an officer and assault by auto.

New Brunswick police say officer Keven Hendricks, a seven-year veteran, encountered Cook around 2:30 a.m. Thursday near Rutgers University's Douglass Campus. Cook allegedly drove away, dragging Hendricks about 50 feet.

Cook then allegedly attempted to disarm the officer, who fought him off. Cook was then apprehended.

Hendricks was treated at a hospital and released. It wasn't known Monday if Cook has retained a lawyer.
