Catnap Burglar Strikes Again

Man found sleeping in woman's bed for second time this week

An intruder who sneaks into women’s homes and falls asleep next to them has struck again.

For the past two nights, the unidentified man walked into homes on Wilbur Street and North Chapel Street in Newark, Del. Both locations are within walking distance of the University of Delaware campus.

Police say he breaks into the home and then jumps into bed with the women and falls asleep.

It’s not until the women wake-up and find a stranger sleeping next to them, that the man runs out without saying a word.

"They were very startled and alarmed at who this person lying right next to me.  They were scared obviously," Newark Police Cpl. Paul Keld said.

The first victim was in her 40’s. The man’s latest target was a University of Delaware college student.

"Honestly, I was kinda creeped out and shocked," UDel student Kerry Miles said after hearing about the attack.

Student Laura Johnson agrees. "It’s really weird, but it’s nice to know he’s not hurting anybody, but it’s crazy to think you can just wake up and somebody is in your bed that you don’t know," she said.

Police can’t say what’s driving this bed bandit, but they want him off the street before his crimes get any worse.

"We want to find out who he is what his motive is," said Cpl. Keld. "We want to catch him from preventing anything from happening further."

The burglar enters the homes through an unlocked door or window, so police are reminding people to lock up before they go to bed.
