Catholic School Strike Enters Week 2

Negotiators for Philadelphia's lay Catholic school teachers and the archdiocese are expected to meet again Monday as a strike affecting about 700 teachers enters its second week.

Archdiocese officials say students are on modified schedules, with freshmen and sophomores undergoing standardized tests that had been scheduled for later in the month.

The teachers at 17 archdiocese high schools in five counties went on strike last week. Students attended school as usual for orientation and other programs.

Negotiating teams for both sides met Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Salary increases and improved working conditions are high on the teachers' list of demands.
