Child Rape Suspect Beaten Up in Prison: Officials

The suspect in two Kensington sexual assaults was in a coma Wednesday after getting into an altercation with prison guards.

Jose Carrasquillo was involved in an incident with several prison guards around 7:45 Sunday night at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in the Holmesburg section of the city, according to prison officials.

What exactly lead to Carrasquillo landing in a hospital bed was still under investigation and no employees were suspended as of Wednesday, said officials.

Carrasquillo allegedly raped of an 11-year-old girl in Kensington last year. He was linked to that case by DNA evidence and surveillance video from near the crime scene, said Philadelphia Police.

He was also accused of groping a 16-year-old girl the same day.

Carrasquillo faces 19 charges ranging from simple assault to sexual assault to rape.

This wasn’t the first time Carrasquillo was beaten up. A group of vigilantes spotted the wanted man last June and beat him up to make sure he wouldn’t get away.

At a court hearing in August, the 27-year-old said he suffers from mental health problems.

Carrasquillo’s trial is set to begin in August, according to court documents.
