Car Hits Gas Meter, Sets House on Fire

A house was destroyed by fire after an elderly woman accidently backed into a gas meter in western Pennsylvania.

TV station WTAE reports Saturday that authorities believe the woman in her 90s hit the gas instead of the brake while backing out of her driveway in Blairsville. That's about 40 miles east of Pittsburgh.

Ab Dettorre of the Blairsville Fire Department says that if the vehicle had hit just a few feet away it would have been just a car accident, but the ruptured gas line burst into flames, destroying a neighbor's house and the car.

The driver wasn't injured, and no one was in the house at the time.
