Car Fire Shuts Down Ben Franklin Bridge to Pennsylvania

A car fire on the Ben Franklin Bridge closed all lanes from New Jersey to Pennsylvania slowing holiday traffic for hours.

The car caught fire just after 2 p.m. Sunday, forcing the closure all of lanes from New Jersey to Pennsylvania, said the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA). Only two lanes were open in the other direction.

Medics transported one person from the scene to a nearby hospital. No word on that person's condition.

Around 3 p.m., all New Jersey-bound lanes reopened and one lane cleared toward Philadelphia.

It would take until almost 4:30 for all lanes to reopen in both directions.
