Car Crash Leads to Theft Arrest

Police find stolen treasury check after alleged thief crashes his car

A Montgomery County man is arrested for theft, after crashing his car into a tree in Lansdale.

Police say 25-year old Eric Otto of Blue Bell slammed his car into a tree Sunday at St. Stanislaus Elementary School and ran off.

He was taken into custody after a brief chase and scuffle. Officers say he was slurring his speech and they smelled alcohol on his breath.

Investigators say Otto had a U.S. Treasury check for $10,000 in his pocket. The check was made out to a person he’d been visiting before the accident.

Otto is facing charges that include DUI, theft and resisting arrest.  He was unable to post $5,000 bail.
