Canada-Pennsylvania Relations Strong Even After Consulate Closed

There was a good deal of concern in the local political and business communities when Canada chose to close its consulate in Philadelphia for budgetary reasons in 2012.

With Canada being Pennsylvania's largest foreign trading partner, those trying to enhance Philadelphia's international business reputation wondered how this might affect the ongoing relationship.

But John Prato, Canada's New York-based consul general now responsible fo servicing five states — Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware — said he thinks "the relationship is actually stronger."
