Camden County Police Debut New DNA Tool to Reunite Owners With Stolen Property

Camden County Police unveiled a new high-tech method for residents to protect their property from thieves.

The Camden County Police Chiefs Association partnered with Applied DNA Sciences to launch the DNA Home Asset Marking Program for residents throughout Camden County.

The $70 kit allows homeowners and business owners to mark their property with a unique and invisible plant based on their specific DNA. Law enforcement officials will be able to identify the marks, which are nearly impossible to remove, using ultraviolet light. The homeowners who use the kit will be given signs and window decals warning burglars that their property is marked.

Once residents dab their items they can register them on a secure server which police will have access to. If police find anything stolen, they’ll swab it and shine an ultraviolet light to see the DNA. If they find the red spot, they’ll return the item to the rightful owner.
