Prosecutors Get Layoff Notices in Camden

Cuts are set to go into effect April

More than a quarter of the employees at the Camden County Prosecutor's Office have received pink slips, including 26 investigators and 18 assistant prosecutors.

The cuts are set to go into effect April 1.

The Courier Post of Cherry Hill reports that Camden County officials are looking to save $3.1 million in budget reductions. More than 260 other county employees received layoff notices on Friday.

This is just more harsh news for a county that regularly struggles. In January, massive layoffs were instituted among Camden police and firefighters, worrying a city that perennially ranks among the most dangerous in the nation. More recently, in mid-February, 260 county workers received layoff notices. The ones who will remain employed have mandatory furloughs.

The prosecutor's office handles approximately 10,500 cases each year -- the second highest of the state's 21 counties.
