Cab Driver Beat Up in Center City

Three teens arrested after punching and kicking driver: Police

The 53-year-old driver for Liberty Cab was parked at a red light at 15th and Chestnut around 8:30 Saturday night, when a group of teens came up to the cab and started yelling names at the male customer in the backseat, according to authorities.

Police say the names were racially derogatory.

The three teens then threw an unknown liquid at the cab, according to police, and pulled the passenger out of the cab and started punching him.

When the cab driver jumped out to find out what was going on, the teens began punching him in the face, kicking him, and threw some type of liquid on him.

The male passenger ran away from the scene.

The cab driver was able to make it to the trunk, where he pulled out a tire iron and scared the teens off, police said.

The driver was able to flag down a police officer, who arrested the teens after a foot chase.

The suspects are two 17-year-olds and a 15-year old.  They are charged with aggravated assault and related offenses.
