Man Gets 30 Years for Killing Ex-Employer in Robbery

A New Jersey man who shot and killed his former employer during a robbery at the victim's home is now headed to prison.

David Stead received a 30-year sentence on Tuesday.

The 44-year-old Pemberton man initially was charged with murder in the July 2016 death of Thomas Wright II at his Tabernacle home. But he eventually pleaded guilty in July to aggravated manslaughter.

Burlington County prosecutors say Stead went to Wright's home to rob him but instead shot him multiple times in the head and neck. He then stole a small amount of cash and drove off in a rented truck Wright had been using.

Wright's father found his son's body after the victim didn't show up at a job site.

Stead had once worked for Wright's masonry business.
