A group of burglars used two cars to carry out a $45,000 theft at the high-end Boyds clothing store in Center City, newly released surveillance video shows.
Using a red 2016 Toyota Rav4 SUV, the crew backed over the curb and rammed the vehicle through the large display window of the Chestnut Street store at 4:41 a.m. Tuesday.
The suspects, as many as seven, then kicked in the shatter-resistant glass to make an opening wide enough to get to the store. Once inside, they grabbed designer coats and handbags totaling more than $45,000, police said.
A passerby tried to get in on the theft, but had the items he took snatched away by the burglars, a source tells NBC10.
Some of the men jumped into a silver 2012 Mercedes Benz S350 parked across the street with their spoils. The men, all wearing gray hoodies, then fled the area.
The entire theft took place over the course of about three minutes.
Detectives said the SUV suffered significant rear-end damage in the ramming and are hoping someone may spot it.
