A burglar was caught on camera cutting through the roof of a Philadelphia gas station and prying open an ATM machine, from which police say he or she stole more than $8,000.
The burglary happened around 12:10 a.m. Wednesday at a Sunoco gas station on the 8000 block of Germantown Avenue, the Philadelphia Police Department said. A second suspect waited on the roof as the first suspect committed the burglary, the PPD said.
Surveillance video from inside the gas station shows a person climbing in legs-first and crouching onto a rack before turning to the camera and revealing a white covering on the bottom half of his or her face.
After that, the person finds the ATM and uses what appears to be a crowbar as he or she struggles to pry open the machine, at one point pushing the bar with his or her legs.
Police said the burglar did manage to open the machine and made off with about $8,120.
It's unknown if the burglar was a man or a woman, but police said he or she was African American with a medium complexion and build. The person was wearing a burgundy hoodie, two-tone dark pants, dark rubber rain boots and gloves with a possible floral pattern, the PPD said. The second suspect was also said to be wearing a hoodie, but no further description was available.
