Masked Men Use Stun Gun to Rob Montco Starbucks

$800 stolen before the store opened for the day

Masked men used a stun gun to rob a Montgomery County Starbucks early Friday morning.

Three employees were preparing to open the Bryn Mawr, Pa. store along the 700 block of Lancaster Avenue around 5:15 a.m. when two masked men ambushed them, Lower Merion Township Police say.

One man shocked the employees and forced them to the floor behind the counter as the other stuffed more than $800 in cash into a bag, police say. They then fled down nearby Pennsylvania Avenue.

Sources tell NBC Philadelphia authorities found several hundred dollars of the stolen money along Pennsylvania Avenue after the bag the suspects used to hold the cash broke.

The employees suffered superficial wounds from the shocks, but didn't require medical treatment.

The robbers are described as black males, both wearing dark-colored hooded sweatshirts and masks, police say.

The early morning robbery caught residents of the usually quiet borough by surprise, but some say crime can happen anywhere.
"You never know what kind of people are going to be in this area," Carrie Kansinger said.

Anyone with information related to the robbery are asked to call Lower Merion Police at 610.649.1000.
