Brother Shoots, Kills Brother in Northeast Philly: Police

A man is dead after being shot by his brother during a dispute in Northeast Philadelphia late Thursday, police said.

James Stevens, 50, and his brother, 33-year-old William Shields, got into a fight inside a unit at Liberty Crossing Apartments at Woodhaven Avenue and Thornton Road just before 11 p.m., police said.

At some point, Shields grabbed a shotgun and shot Stevens in the chest, police said. Paramedics rushed Stevens to Aria-Torresdale Hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries, police said.

Shields was arrested at the apartment. He's charged with murder and possessing an instrument of crime. Attorney information was not immediately available.
