Britain's Prince Edward to Visit Philly

The mayor announced Tuesday that His Royal Highness Prince Edward of Britain will visit Philadelphia on April 26 and 27.

Philadelphia will be hosting a royal guest later this month.

The mayor announced Tuesday that His Royal Highness Prince Edward of Britain will visit on April 26 and 27. He's the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II, who is marking 60 years on the throne.

The prince will plant a tree in honor of his mother's Diamond Jubilee at Girard College, a boarding school for underprivileged students. His great-great-grandfather, King Edward VII, planted a tree the school during his 1860 visit to Philadelphia.

The prince will also meet with students participating in a youth development program begun by his father, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Philadelphia's last royal visit was by Edward's older brother. Prince Charles and his wife Camilla toured the city and attended an orchestra concert in 2007.
