Body Found Near Brandywine River

Wilmington police say a man walking his dog found the body of a partially clothed man under the Washington Street Bridge Sunday morning.

Police say the victim was discovered around 10:30 a.m. beneath the Washington Street Bridge in a channel adjacent to the Brandywine River. He was pronounced dead at the scene and turned over to the state medical examiner's office.

A preliminary identification revealed the victim to be a 30-year-old Newark man. Police say the man was partially clothed and his body appears to have been in the water for several days.

Police are investigating the cause of death.
