Bobby Rydell Charged With DUI

Lower Merion police have charged local pop idol Bobby Rydell with DUI and careless driving after blood tests show he was intoxicated when he drove his car into the wall of a Main Line yoga studio in August.

Police said Rydell’s breath test produced a blood-alcohol content of 0.17 percent, which is over the legal limit of .08 percent.

Rydell, who was not injured in the accident, lost control of his 1969 Bentley, jumped a curb and ran into several bushes eventually hitting the wall of Jai Yoga Studio on Montgomery Avenue in Narberth.

Rydell, who spoke to NBCPhiladelphia after the accident, admitted he had a couple of cocktails for lunch earlier in the day but that he wasn't drunk.  He claimed the reason he could not lift his leg during a sobriety test was due to a hip transplant.

No one else was injured in the accident.
