Birthday Girl Asks for Donations Instead of Presents

A young girl from Montgomery County decided to share her birthday this year with kids that are less fortunate.

Instead of gifts, 8-year-old Elizabeth Sarvey, of Skippack, asked guests coming to her birthday party to bring clothing donations instead.

Her mom, Sara Sarvey, says her daughter got the idea after watching a Disney Channel show about a girl who collected shoe donations.

"I thought I could really just change the world by helping the kids that need clothes," said Elizabeth Sarvey.

The birthday girl says she's really happy with the amount of clothing she received.

She plans to bring the donations to the Salvation Army Shelter in Norristown next week.

"I feel really happy about it, just because I know I'm helping other kids instead of helping me," said Sarvey.
