Bikecabs Now Available in Philly

You too can be eco-friendly—but at a price

This Saturday bikecabs become available in select parts of Philadelphia.

More than a dozen of the eco-friendly modes of transportation will flow through Center City, Northern Liberties and the Rittenhouse and Parkway areas. The now legalized cabs were presented Thursday at a City Hall news conference, reports the Inquirer.

It certainly is a proactive way of promoting an environmentally conscience city, but at a bit of a steep cost. There will be a $5 minimum charge with a standard cost of $1 per person per block.

A few models will be ready to take you away, including The Chariots of Philly, where you can sit back and get pulled around in a cushioned seat by bike. This model has been serving the Manayunk and Avalon, N.J., areas for quite some time now.

The alternate route is to take the more modern looking Velo-Park cab, which holds the driver and a few passengers. To keep things safe, helmets will be provided for children along the ride.

Don’t worry. Cosmo Kramer won’t be training anyone to pull you along through the streets of Philadelphia. Knowledge of the area along with being properly trained, licensed and insured is a standard requirement.

The bikecabs aren’t just for your daily ride. They are also offered for groups, tours, special events and more.

So if you’re looking for a ride this Saturday, get out there are start being the eco-friendly resident you should be.
